No month passes without a new Italian prog metal CD on my doormat. This time it is Progressive Xperience's album 'X', already released in May of this year. The six Italians also drink from that big pool of influence with Dream Theater and Fates Warning flavour and to be honest I think I heard it all by now. I'm not in any way surprised by what my ears are hearing and like I thought a few years of the power metal genre there a lot of bands are interchangeable. Please don't get me wrong here, the musicians are great and the songs are nice as well but there is lack of self-identity. The bar is raised, highfliers must work for their high grading and Progressive Xperience doesn't do that enough. How many more bands like these are there anyway? It is a double feeling, I realize that well but there is an overflow which makes it hard to filter out the best ones. There are only a few bands who really are able to surprise me, even Dream Theater themselves hardly can really.
