PROGRESSIVEXPERIENCE - ALBUM “X”

There is nothing particularly Italian to this band’s music, it’s “standard” progressive metal. The first band that came to mind was Symphony X. Maybe the title of the album (“X”) was chosen on purpose? Some songs have a strong reference to The Aurora Project. Other bands with some resemblance are: Savatage, Shadow Gallery, Blind Guardian, Ayreon, Vanden Plas. The “ballads” are a little too sappy for my liking, although some have some nice hooks.

Intro: Well … that’s what it is … some (spacey) reference to Ayreon…

Track (1)”Crossroads of Mistery”: Nice typical Prog Metal Track which sets the pace for the album. The track reminds me somewhat of The Aurora Project (also the voice of the singers are quite similar). One of the best songs on the album.

Track (2): Another metal track. Again clear references to The Aurora Project!

Track (3): Dark track (Metal) with some nice hooks. Good song.

Track (4)”Moments of creation”: Ballad, clearly too sappy for my liking. Could use some serious tempo-changes, now it’s just dragging on….no surprises here (worst song of the album)

Track (5): Best song of the album…great instrumental, very progressive. Love the use of Xylophone! Some really nice tempo changes, good soloing…good stuff

From here on the album clearly changes: The next three songs are very piano-driven, whereas in the foregoing the piano didn’t play any (important) part

Track (6): Ballad, much better though than Track(4), with a beautiful guitar/piano solo

Track (7): Starts out as another ballad with piano, then some Metal enters the scene. Nothing special, but a nice song

Track (8): The (mini) epic of the album. Like the hooks of the track, here is a strong reference to Symphony X. The strings don’t do it for me on this track though, too mellow (almost sentimental).

Track (9): Back to the beginning of the album, good strong prog metal. Reminds me strongly of Vanden Plas!

Overall: A good prog metal album, which (opposite to what you think Ayreonfreak) is certainly not too complex. For me the ballads are the weak point of the album (including the “sentimental” parts of the mini epic).
